2 for 1 files - Notebook cover from a Sticky Note Holder

Hello there - It's Tya here with a fun tutorial on how to stretch your cut files. I love making lists and notes so I always have a notebook or sticky notes around and I wanted to make covers for the both of them. I found this file - Sticky Note Holder 2, but I couldn't find one that fit the 5x8 inch notepad so I decided to alter the the Sticky note holder to fit. It was so easy! Let me show you how I did it -

Gather up your supplies - I used a 5x8 notepad, a standard size sticky note and some darling pattern paper and stickers from Lori's Here and Now line from Echo Park and some black cardstock.

Next  -  go ahead and select the files- this is what it looks like -

Cut the sticky note holder out like normal. - it had 2 flowers and a small dot in the center of one of the squares included with it and I am not using them so I just deleted them. To make the notebook cover - I took the measurements of the notepad  and then adjusted my cut file so that it was a little bit bigger than the note book.
The file ended up being 8 1/2 x 11 - but i used a 12 x 12 piece of paper just to make sure it cut all around. I resized the pattern paper for the front of the notebook to be 5 x 8.
Here are the covers-
I love the way the covers turned out and it was so easy! Just a few different measurements and I had a custom made notepad cover that I just love!

I added a ribbon to the cover before I added the pattern paper for a fun enclosure.

Hopefully I have inspired you stretch you cut files to be able to use them on all different shapes and sizes! It is so much fun to add a little custom touch to you projects. Thanks for stopping by!

Doodlebug Design Color Challenge - Bubblegum Scrapbook Layout

Hi Doodlebug friends - it's my turn up on the blog today to show you my project for the Color Challenge. I chose the adorably named Bubblegum for my color of choice. Now usually I go for black ( it is my favorite color after all :) but I decided to stretch myself and do a bright pink layout! I knew the exact photo that I wanted to use and it was a perfect match for all the bright and happy bubblegum products that I had. So I am lucky enough to not only be on the design team for Doodlebug, but I do get to do some work at the home office and this year I got to attend the winter CHA trade show in Anaheim with a few of the Doodlebug crew. Everyday we dress in a different color polo shirt that matches the booth and we took a "selfie" of a few of us girls in our bright bubblegum shirts. I love how this layout turned out :)  Here it is -

As you can see I used several different types of pattern papers including Petite Print, a Bubblegum Heart print from an older Valentines day line and a few different papers from the Kraft in Color line. Of course the thing I love the most about Doodlebug products is even if my Bubblegum papers were from a recent release or a few releases ago - the shades always match perfectly! I love that!
I used several different washi tapes to make this fun banner. I used the regular size and the thin size on a length of bubblegum bakers twine. My title was made with Bubblegum Skinny Cardstock Stickers and a glitter sprinkle for the dot on the "i"
I used a few different heart Doodlepops and stickers as well as some Bubblegum jewels and pearls. The title is made from Bubblegum Chippers letters.
I mounted my journaling on a doily and some awesome textured cardstock. I added some more bakers twine around the cardstock for a fun touch.

Thanks for stopping by today and I hope I have inspired you to add a little "pop" of Bubblegum pink to your next scrapbook or paper craft project! Have a great day!

Lori Whitock Creative Team August Blog Hop

Hi friends - welcome to Lori Whitlock's August Blog Hop! You should have arrived here from Kathy's blog or you can start at the very beginning at Lori's blog where you can pick up this darling freebie and she is also doing a giveaway so make sure to stop back there!

Well - it's Back to School time here around the Smith house so I thought it would be a lot of fun to gather up some school supplies, some Silhouette white Sticker Paper and a few of my favorite Lori Whitlock files and make some personalized items for my son. It was a lot of fun!

To start with, let me show you how I did the folders and the note card holder.  I utilized the Print and Cut feature to make my stickers. I found a few label shapes that I liked and added the 1st Period, 2nd Period etc. lettering to the labels. I then ran the sticker sheet right through my printer and then cut them out on my Silhouette using the White Sticker Paper setting. So quick and easy!

To make the note book I found one of Lori's Life Cards from the School Rules Digital Collection and resized the card to fit a composition note book. I added my sons name to the card using one of Lori's cute fonts. The print and cut feature only lets you print up to a certain size , which is smaller than the front of the notebook so I just sized the card as big as I could within the boundaries of the box when you do the registration marks and then printed it out. I added an orange cardstock background and glued that and then the printed life card on to the front of the notebook.

That's all there is to it ! I adore using my Silhouette to personalize items and hopefully I have inspired you to do the same!

Here are the files I used to create my projects:

-LW TypeKey Font (LW Shop) (Silhouette)

Happy Thoughts Flip Frame

Hi  Lori Whitlock Fans- it's Tya here to share with you a fun project featuring a few of Lori's adorable quotes that she has designed. I adore the fonts and the way she lays out the sayings. I have a daughter who is headed to college soon and I thought I would make this for her as a little way to send her happy, positive, uplifting thoughts to start out her day! I had a lot of fun with this one :)

To start with I chose a few of my favorite quotes and layed them out on my Silhouette work space. The files come already colored or blank so you can choose your own colors. I decided to stick with the colors that are included in the file. Ungroup the quote and delete the other letters.

Next I grouped all the letters together and then I resized the quote to fit my frame ( the quotes are on a piece of 2.75 x 4.5  white cardstock, the quotes are then mounted on a 3.25 x 5 inch piece of  colored cardstock).
I used the print and cut feature to print out all my quotes and then mounted them on the cardstock. I then punched 2 holes in the top of the cardstock and used two books rings to put all the quotes on. I then added the quotes to a flip frame that I got from my local Michaels store. Here are a few of the other pages that I did for the frame:

Here are the files I used:
-4 Positive Quotes (LW Shop)
-4 Happiness Quotes (LW Shop)
-4 Happy Good Thankful Quotes (LW Shop)
-Live Simply Dream Big (LW Shop) (Silhouette)
-Always Believe Something Wonderful (LW Shop) (Silhouette)
 -9 Seamless Borders (LW Shop)
- Do What You Love (Silhouette)
-There's Always Something to Be Thankful For (Silhouette)
-There are So Many Reasons to be Happy  (Silhouette)
-I Can and Will  (Silhouette)
-Your Day Will Go the Way the Corners of Your Mouth Turn (Silhouette)

Pretty quick and easy especially if you use the print and cut feature on your Silhouette! Love that feature! I hope I have inspired you do make this project and add a few "Happy Thoughts" to your own space. Thanks for joining me and Happy Crafting!

Tear Strip Card Tutorial with Tya

Hi there Lori Whitlock fans! It's Tya here to share with you a super fun tutorial. If you are looking to spice up your handmade cards - look no further! I am going to share with you how to make a card with a tear away strip on it. It is so fun and easy! Let me show you how I did it!

So I was looking on a Pinterest board for cool and creative card ideas and I stumbled upon this cool business card and knew I had to see if I could do the same on a regular card.

And imagine my surprise when I found that Lori had designed a file for the Silhouette with not one but FOUR different tear away strips! I was so excited to try it out and share with you how to do it -

First off - find a card base that you like - I used a scalloped edge card - add the card base and the tear strip cut files on the workspace-
I added the tear away strip to the bottom right edge of my card base. Make sure that you get the edge of the tear away strip right flush with the edge of the paper so that it will tear all the way off. (See below)
Now let's choose a sentiment. Using the draw a rectangle tool (the rectangle shape on the top, left side of the side toolbar) draw a rectangle about and inch high and as wide as your card base. Type out your sentiment. (I used the print and cut feature, but you can use your word processing program instead if you prefer). Cut this out.

Now to make sure it lines up with your tear away strip, I like to lift up the edge slightly as shown and then lay the sentiment down to the inside of the card base.

Now that we have our sentiment down, its time to decorate the front. I used Lori's darling I Love Sunshine line from Echo Park to make my cards.

This technique is really quite easy, but I think it packs a lot of punch and is a fun way to add an interactive element to your cards. Kids will love this!

Here are the cards close up - Before the tear strip is torn off -

And after!
